What sparks creativity for you?

A:

The pursuit of sounds that I’ve not yet heard spark a lot of creativity. Presently, I’m fascinated with abiotic factors and the way they interact with biological processes.

Short Bio

Joseph Franklin is an Australian composer and improvising bassist whose practice spans improvised, notated, experimental and film music. He leads his own project, is a member of The Music Box Project and co-founder of The Opera Company.

His chamber opera Jouska was premiered at the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music by The Music Box Project, who received the award for ‘Excellence In Experimental Music’ at the 2020 Art Music Awards.

His sophomore album Amen was recorded in NYC with Marc Hannaford (piano) and Satoshi Takeishi (drums).

Described as “the avant-garde of today” (Eric Meyers, The Weekend Australian), the Melbourne album launch was a finalist for ‘Performance of the Year: Jazz/Improvised Music’ at the 2020 Art Music Awards.
