Can art save us?
Art has a tremendous effect on culture and society and thus can either save us or neglect us depending on artistic intention and beauty.
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Marcello Maio was born and raised in Sydney surrounded by music from his father who taught him the piano accordion. From that he developed an appreciation for the songs from the ‘old country’, along with an influence of classical music.
Along with the accordion, his love for jazz and contemporary piano has found him performing with an eclectic range of local and international artists including Maria Schneider, Cody Chesnutt, Monsieur Camembert and Ngaiire.
His collaborations with Phoenix Central Park have seen him develop his passion for improvisation, piano and accordion duo work with Ambre Hammond and Violet Lines, a classic bossa nova jazz ensemble.
