Season 2

MIRADOR

Phoenix X Subversus

Directed by VERSUS & Angela Goh
Choreographed and performed by Angela Goh

“Getting lost was central to my first experiences being inside Phoenix—doors led to stairwells, led to corridors, led to other stairwells that looked the same but were different, which led to dark corners which turned onto underground levels, which through other doorways suddenly opened out onto rooftops. Being inside Phoenix is like navigating a labyrinth. For Mirador we wanted to capture this feeling of mystery—how the building reveals itself in both puzzling and dazzling ways that feel like there is always more to discover.”

Angela Goh

“The dizzying network of incredible spaces within Phoenix can be quite bewildering. Our collab with Angela on the first film in our season investigates this sense of disorientation. Angela’s performance plays with space and perspective in a way that makes the viewer question whether they are witnessing an in-camera performance or some kind of post-production trickery.”

On Set | Behind the Scenes

“We worked together, as directors and choreographer, not just to capture movement inside Phoenix, but to build a language that is both choreographic and cinematic at the same time.”

“Phoenix is so beautiful that it feels surreal—as if stepping into an architectural dreamscape. Mirador plays with how the body navigates such a dreamscape and becomes part of it, in tactile and physical ways that make the architecture feel sensorial and the body dreamlike.”
