MONOCHROMATIC

MONOCHROMATIC

Phoenix has collected three of the most remarkable pianos on the planet, and in MONOCHROMATIC visionary artists will impart unique performances upon each - their dexterous fingers probing the infinite shades between the colour of ivory and the colour of night.

As the first of Phoenix's Instrument Series, MONOCHROMATIC will delve into the unexpected. Pianists from the classical, jazz, and experimental spheres will explore bold performances of contemporary works and reinvigorated classics.

Intermezzo Op. 118 No. 2 in A Major
By Johannes Brahms

Q:

What emotions does the ‘Intermezzo’ arouse in you?

A:

It arouses nostalgia, it reminds me of an old couple sitting on a balcony, drinking tea and reflecting on their long life together. And there’s a magical ‘ooh wow’ moment in the middle section which is absolutely beautiful and ethereal.

Q:

Describe the ‘Intermezzo’ in colour.

A:

The beautiful harmonies give me the feel of autumnal amber, dark orange and reds.

Q:

How was your performance experience at Phoenix?

A:

I've had the most brilliant time! The atmosphere is just gorgeous and calm, and the space is really welcoming. The magical sounds of the Erard resonate beautifully in the space to capture the emotional content of the piece.
