Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul
‘Lights On’ Opening Night
with Vv Pete, UTILITY & Friends + HALFQUEEN
8 March 2024
Belgian international dance-pop sensations Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul headline 'Lights On' in a Sydney exclusive, bringing their deliciously mischievous hooks, electroclash production and incisive lyrics to Australia for the first time. Following the critical success of their debut album Topical Dancer, which found its way onto countless 'best of 2022' lists, including Pitchfork, NME, The Guardian & The Needle Drop, 'Lights On' will be their debut Sydney appearance.
With their irresistible rhythms, on-point critiques and acerbic wit, the pair are sure to send the crowd wild.
Joining them will be Australia's rising star of Australian hip-hop, Mount Druitt's Vv Pete, who has been winning audiences across the country with her incomparable stage presence, lyrical dexterity and infectious enthusiasm.
Vv will be accompanied on stage by Trackwork label boss and producer UTILITY, who will be bringing a cohort of some of Australia's most exciting new artists from the realm of underground hip-hop, including Gamilaraay rappers T Breezy and Walkerboy.
Finally, rounding out the evening is Aotearoa’s own dance music royalty HALFQUEEN. Rooted in the experience of her Fijian and Pākehā bloodlines, she is internationally renowned for decolonising the dancefloor with her high energy sets evoking nostalgia and ecstasy.
This performance is part of the 24th Biennale of Sydney, Ten Thousand Suns.
This performance will take place at the NSW State Heritage-listed White Bay Power Station, as part of the 24th Biennale of Sydney.
Placemaking NSW has undertaken extensive remediation and conservation works to repurpose White Bay Power Station as an arts, cultural and community hub. It will become a focal point for the transformation of the Bays West precinct into a connected and vibrant new area for living, working and recreation.
White Bay Power Station was constructed between 1912 and 1917 to power the rail network and is now over 100 years old. It is exceptionally significant as the only power station retaining machinery and equipment from before the 1950s, demonstrating the process of electricity production and its use throughout Sydney’s extensive rail network.
