The Empty Threats

with Perfect Actress

8 May 2024

Infusing the tradition of Australian post-punk with a vibrant performativity not otherwise seen in the genre, The Empty Threats seize and hold your attention with their in-your-face performances, evoking the tradition. Their blend of genre-bending music with razor-sharp social commentary is exemplified by their no-holds-barred approach to performing.

The Empty Threats

The Empty Threats are a 5-piece queer post-punk/noise-rock band from Kaurna Land/Adelaide, South Australia. They create a blend of modern post-punk and 80s Australiana while featuring political convictions and lived experience through their music - no more exemplified than on the first two singles, ‘Boys in the Gutter’ & ‘ATACB’,  from their debut album Monster Truck Mondays. They are a band to behold live on stages of any size, evoking stagecraft from greats like the Oils and the Stones.

This blend of commentary, genre mash and performance style has seen them play a range of events from WOMAD2022 to the Adelaide 500 supporting Jimmy Barnes to playing with contemporaries like Methyl Ethyl, Mildlife, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers, A. Swayze & the Ghosts, Babe Rainbow to name a few.

They are set for an incredible 12 months ahead with the largest tour of their career in 2023, debut album Monster Truck Mondays, an appearance at Yours & Owls and the prospect of taking their show to Europe.

Perfect Actress

Perfect Actress is a punk band that loves watching movies with sexy diva actresses in them. They practice and record on Gadigal land. Their debut EP Perfect Actress was released in 2023.

This performance is part of the 24th Biennale of Sydney, Ten Thousand Suns.

This performance will take place at the NSW State Heritage-listed White Bay Power Station, as part of the 24th Biennale of Sydney.

Placemaking NSW has undertaken extensive remediation and conservation works to repurpose White Bay Power Station as an arts, cultural and community hub. It will become a focal point for the transformation of the Bays West precinct into a connected and vibrant new area for living, working and recreation.

White Bay Power Station was constructed between 1912 and 1917 to power the rail network and is now over 100 years old. It is exceptionally significant as the only power station retaining machinery and equipment from before the 1950s, demonstrating the process of electricity production and its use throughout Sydney’s extensive rail network.
