Sydney's Microfiche are a six-piece improvising ensemble whose music brings together minimalist compositional processes and free improvisation to create both long-form and miniature works.

In 2015, the band formed as a student ensemble at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Under the tuition of Phil Slater and Simon Barker, the group initially explored processes found in the music of experimental composers John Cage and Morton Feldman, later reconceptualising those ideas into a body of original material with works contributed by each member of the group; these compositions are musical 'meeting points', weaved into extended periods of free improvisation.
