Alice giles

THU 3 March 2022
6:30pm & 8:15pm

Alice Giles is one of the world’s leading harpists. Her practice takes up the thread connecting the instrument from the dawn of humankind to find new ways of vital expression. Giles harnesses the infinite colour variation of the harp and conjures blooming, enveloping sounds through her symbiotic gestures.

In a new commission by Phoenix Central Park, Giles will extend the possibilities of the instrument in an all-new dramatic and immersive program featuring world premieres of works by Mary Doumany, Sharon Calcraft and Jon Drummond

These three new major works for pedal, lever and electro-acoustic harps will explore the essential nature of this ancient, multi-faceted and mystical instrument, elevated by a specially-created lighting design by Sam Whiteside.

PROGRAMME:
Mary Doumany — Harp Body Her Body (World Premiere)
Sharon Calcraft — Peregrinatio (World Premiere)
Jon Drummond — Helix Sequencing (World Premiere)
