Beckah Amani

1 August 2024

Writing music that feels both intimately personal and widely resonant is one of the greatest artistic feats there is. And yet the skill to do it well is something surprisingly rare, a talent that is honed through hard work. Beckah Amani is one of those songwriters. She writes delicate, intimate yet genre dynamic songs that draw on deeply personal topics – heartbreak, identity, placelessness,  — with warmth and grace, drawing strength from her sonorous voice. Her work always manages to offer both solace and motivation, offering salve to the wounds of the world.

Beckah has spent the past year and a half  living between London and Australia with occasional short trips to LA. Tapping into the creative scenes of these places, Beckah has crafted a rich and sonically expensive body of work that will shape Beckah Amani’s next era. Working with a high caliber of producers, writers and musicians such as Jakwob (little Simz, Nina Archives), MPhazes (Remi Wolf, Kehlani), Rory Noble (Burna Boy, Ruel), The Imports (Tkay Maidza), Alice Ivy and Femi Koleoso from Mercury Prize-winning act, Ezra Collective; Beckah has created a world where she expresses her love for pop, afro and indie soul.

Already, Beckah Amani has captured widespread industry attention - most recently nominated for Emerging Songwriter of the Year at the 2024 APRA Awards. Last year, Beckah was named in the NME 100, spotlighted as an essential emerging artist to look out for in 2023, while 2022 saw her take home the APRA Professional Development Award for Popular Contemporary, plus the QMA Award for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2021 presented by triple j Unearthed. Previous singles, including “Lebeka Leka” produced by Josh Fountain (BENEE) and Tony Buchen (Troye Sivan, G Flip), and Beckah’s heartfelt debut EP, April, enjoyed extensive support from triple j, community radio, and followed industry live showcases at the likes of Bigsound and The Great Escape.
