Plead Morimoto
13 February 2025
Plead Morimoto is an ongoing collaboration between DJ Plead and T.Morimoto. Perhaps best known (as a duo) for their self-titled release as Poison in 2018, and occasional back to back DJ sets, they will return to performing live after a formative residency period in Chengdu in 2024, hosted by Heling Gong at his Bian Li Studio. Their new sound combines DJ Plead’s signature leads, hooks and trills with cinematic sound design, granular flourishes, artificial vocals, pop-inspired chord progressions and syncopated rhythms. Their unique collaborative approach channels their previous work as DJs and producers of dance and club music, while simultaneously eschewing drum samples and conventional approaches to dance music production. Conceptualised through mutual feelings of drum fatigue, their tracks contain nods to a plethora of tropes, techniques and rhythmic templates gleaned from their extensive experience as producers working across genres. Their heady, psychedelic, hypnotic and emotive productions will be performed for the first time at Phoenix Central Park, and will be released later in 2025.
