Guy Blackman
Out Of Sight
20 November 2025
Guy Blackman is a songwriter’s songwriter. His deftly constructed songs deal frankly with issues of love, sexuality and commitment. If Serge Gainsbourg, Tim Hardin or Kevin Ayers wrote songs set in gay saunas or on adult camming websites, you might get close to an idea of Guy’s approach.
He released new album Out Of Sight in July 2025, featuring a duet with Julien Gasc (Stereolab, Aquaserge) and contributions from Laura Jean, Liam Parsons & Stefan Blair (Good Morning) and Liam Halliwell (Snowy Band). The album was RRR and RTR album of the week, and album of the month in French glossy magazine Rock & Folk. Guy toured the UK and France in July 2025.
In Australia, Guy has shared stages with Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan, Vashti Bunyan, Stereolab, John Grant, Beach Fossils, Owen Pallett, Jens Lekman and others. As a member of bands Sleepy Township, Montero and Minimum Chips, he has played with Elliot Smith, Cat Power, Pavement, War On Drugs, Kurt Vile and more.
Guy has toured the US, UK, Europe and Japan, playing with Mt Eerie, Tenniscoats, Dear Nora, Julien Gasc and others.
His solo debut Adult Baby was reissued on vinyl by French label Pop Superette in 2024, raved about by Bertrand Burgalat and reviewed in Rock & Folk and Section 26. That album includes a steamy duet with Swedish pop star Jens Lekman, plus appearances from members of the Dirty Three, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and many more.
In 2018 Guy released the compilation Here Pieces, made up of rare recordings from the nineties onwards.
Guy is also one of the driving forces behind Chapter Music, one of Australia’s longest-running and best-loved independent record labels, which he began in 1992 at the age of 17. Chapter won best label at the Australian Independent Record Label Awards in 2019 and 2023.
Guy has been songwriting ambassador to the Emerging Writers’ Festival and presented his songs as part of Melbourne Writers’ Festival.
For this performance, Guy Blackman will be joined by a string quartet bringing to life the intricate arrangements featured on the studio recording.
