Trio Kin brings together three internationally acclaimed artists—violinist Emma McGrath, cellist Hyung Suk Bae, and pianist Vatche Jambazian—each with celebrated solo, chamber, and orchestral careers across the globe. United by deep musical rapport and a shared passion for chamber music, the trio draws on decades of collective experience performing at major venues and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, and Lincoln Center. About Hyung Suk Bae

Hyung Suk Bae, internationally renowned cellist celebrated for his captivating performances and multifaceted artistry, currently serves as the Principal Cellist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Bae has received much praise for his profound musicianship and technical mastery. His playing has been critically acclaimed as transcending "beyond technical excellence and into the realms of artistry,"(Gisborne Herald).

Bae's performances have graced prestigious venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, and the Sydney Opera House. Among his recent achievements, his rendition of Richard Strauss's Don Quixote with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra was particularly lauded for its compelling storytelling.

As a sought-after principal cellist, Bae has collaborated with esteemed ensembles such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral engagements, Bae is a dedicated educator, holding faculty positions at both the University of Queensland and Queensland Conservatorium. Bae's musical journey began at The Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees on full scholarships under the mentorship of Joel Krosnick, former cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet. Playing on a Giovanni Grancino cello from 1700 (Milan) and Vettori cello from 2023 (Florence), Bae's instruments are prized for their rich tonal qualities and historical significance. His performances continue to inspire and captivate audiences, solidifying his place as one of the leading cellists of his generation. He performs exclusively on Larsen Strings and is distinguished as an official Larsen String Artist.

About Emma McGrath

Violinist Emma McGrath is the Concertmaster of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. She enjoys an international and varied career as a Concertmaster, soloist, chamber musician, conductor, teacher, educator, and mentor.

Emma has appeared as a Guest Concertmaster/Leader with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, West Australia Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. She has performed as a soloist all over Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA. Highlights include Max Richter’s ‘Recomposed’ to sold-out audiences as part of the Dark Mofo Festival, and concerti and solos by Britten, Mozart, Bruch, Saint-Saens, Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Vaughan Williams and Bottesini with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Emma was a member of the award-winning Panormo Quartet in London, the Starling Quartet in Pittsburgh, and the Kettering Piano Quartet and the Tasmanian String Quartet in Hobart. She has also participated in the Bangalow Music Festival, the Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival, and the Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs.

Prior to moving to Tasmania, Emma was the Assistant Concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony, and the Associate Concertmaster of the Seattle Symphony.

She is also a professional singer, baroque violinist, and conductor – and enjoys bushwalking in Tasmania’s wild places in her spare time!

 

About Vatche Jambazian

Pianist Vatche Jambazian completed his Master of Music at The Juilliard School following studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Having performed globally and nationally throughout North America, Asia, Europe and Australia, he has appeared in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, UKARIA and City Recital Hall Angel’s Place and has been featured on WQXR Radio (New York classical radio), ABC Classic and 2MBS Fine Music Station.

Vatche’s recent performances have seen him perform as soloist and chamber musician with Australian Youth Orchestra, Umberto Clerici, Andrew Haveron, David Greco, Eleanor Lyons, Nexas Quartet, Flinders Quartet, Orava Quartet, Hyung Suk Bae, Emma McGrath, Omega Ensemble, Lauren Fagan, Harry Ward, Lloyd Vant Hoff, Konstantin Shamray and Ian Munro as well as being a featured artist in the Adelaide Festival , Sydney Festival, Bangalow Festival, Adelaide Hills Summer Festival, Bowral Autumn Music Festival and the Orange Festival. In 2022 Vatche premiered Phillip Glass’ Third Piano Concerto in City Recital Hall, and recently the World premiere of Grammy award winning composer Caroline Shaw’s Harpsichord Concerto.

Vatche is currently on faculty at the Australian Institute of Music, Principal Pianist of the Omega Ensemble and Artistic Director of the Bowral Autumn Music Festival.

  • Phoenix Central Park is an intimate performance space and tickets are limited. Due to high demand, tickets will be issued at random to those who have entered each ticket ballot. Each performance has a separate ballot, so if you would like to attend multiple performances, you will need to enter each ballot separately.

    We advise you to listen to the artist you are entering the ballot for, and consider which shows you’d really like to attend. Entering more ballots does not increase your chances of attending.

    Please only enter our ballots with your own details - if we catch you using false details, you won’t have any luck. We reserve the right to cancel any tickets we believe are obtained through false information at any time.
