Abi Lee

20 July 2026

Abi Lee is an improvising pianist and composer based in Naarm (Melbourne), creating music for small ensembles and solo piano that draws on contemporary improvised music. Deeply committed to her craft, Abi brings a unique perspective to each performance, showing "musical depth and vulnerability necessary to be engaged in high-level real-time improvisation” (Stephen Magnusson 2024). Her debut album, Up on the Hill Again, Here I Go, reflects her solo move from Auckland, NZ, to Melbourne. Rhythms Magazine notes, “There is a measured calm to this music, full of minimalist and restive beauty forged from conversational exchange […] Abi Lee has left her calling card, testifying to her self-assuredness and nascent talent as pianist and composer” (Des Cowley). Abi is an award-winning and active performer, presenting her music at major festivals across Australia, including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival, and Rising Festival.

This is Abi’s farewell show, which previews her upcoming album, Beyond, Below, and Above, before she departs for New York to continue her studies. It features her improvising trio—Julien Wilson (sax) and Dylan van der Schyff (drums)—highlighting prompt-based compositions that invite creative exploration.

Please only enter our ballots with your own details - if we catch you using false details, you won’t have any luck. We reserve the right to cancel any tickets we believe are obtained through false information at any time.

  • If you are successful you will receive an email up to ten days prior to the performance with instructions on how to claim your tickets.
