Huda the Goddess x Reuben Lewis
Story of Another Soul
11 August 2026
A decolonial dreaming of new futures that seeks truth in the roots of improvisation.
Award winning Naarm based musician Reuben Lewis and legendary Meanjin based spoken word poet Huda the Goddess combine forces in Story of Another Soul. Known as Huda the Goddess on stage, Huda Fadlelmawla delivers powerful improvised stories about equality, her journey as a Sudanese refugee and women’s rights. Through trumpet alongside live processing with pedals and laptop Reuben Lewis devises an ever expanding and “vivid listening experience that gleams with sinister detail” (The Wire). There is a vast, monolithic intensity to this collaboration. It plays on expectations, shattering all semblance of familiar form, story and symbol. We are instead evoked to create a new narrative, one that is just between us the listener, the poet and the sound world.
About Huda the Goddess
Known as 'Huda the Goddess' on stage, Huda Fadlelmawla delivers powerful spoken word poetry about equality, her journey as a Sudanese refugee and women’s rights. Huda toured the world as the 2021 Australian Poetry Slam Champion and is a two-time QLD champ. About Reuben Lewis
Reuben Lewis’ practice is both singular and eclectic. As an award-winning trumpeter, composer, improviser, bandleader and producer he has refined a diverse electro-acoustic language that has been lauded as “a vivid listening experience that gleams with sinister detail” (The Wire). Devised through trumpet alongside live processing with pedals and laptop, his music aims to play on our expectations and unravel all semblance of familiar form, and in doing so seek to create a new musical narrative that is “beyond category” (The Australian).
