Shock Corridor
30 July 2026
Hailing from Naarm/Melbourne, Shock Corridor are a six-piece who blend dark-wave, trip-hop and post-punk into a cocoon of contrast. They marry elegance, agony, love and longing in a sound that tosses and turns in a bed of expansive percussion, melancholic violin and stark lyricism, sub-heavy beats and 808s giving way to quieter, orchestral-led moments that open up breathing room and reflection. Their recordings and live performances traverse emotional extremes, existential uncertainty and intimate confession.
Formed at the tail end of 2019, the band worked quietly between snap lockdowns over the next three years, a saving grace, in retrospect, that allowed them to hone their sound as they transitioned from teenagers into adulthood amidst an international pandemic. They played their first gig in early 2023, four years after their inception, and have since steadily established themselves within Naarm's live music scene. Every Shock Corridor headline show in Melbourne has sold out, with immediate demand for the next from both attendees and those who missed out.
That momentum has been matched by growing tastemaker attention. Shock Corridor have earned support from BBC Radio 6 Music, supported iconic Australian outfit Bleak Squad, earned a feature with The Line Of Best Fit, and recognition as FBi Radio's Independent Artist of the Week, alongside coverage from Brooklyn Vegan and Metal Magazine.
Perpetually influenced by Melbourne's musical history, the band's sound is built on the bands and records woven into their home city's lifespan, while reaching out to a Bristolian lineage of trip-hop and dark-wave. The result is a melting pot that draws Seaview Ballroom comparisons as readily as Bristol ones, a sound they've heard described as a "Frankenstein's monster" that ultimately stands on its own two feet, both in its subject matter and sonically, as something that exists to reckon with the human condition.
This all comes to a head on their upcoming debut self-titled album. Recorded over seven days at Soundpark Studios with producer Dan Luscombe (The Drones, Amyl and the Sniffers, Courtney Barnett, Floodlights) and mixed by Aaron Cupples (Spiritualized, Tropical Fuck Storm, Kirin J Callinan), the record speaks to the six-year lifespan between the band and the connection in the world they share. Expanding on debut EP I'm Afraid I've Lost My Way, the swooning single ‘In Your Orbit’ and the guttural ‘Mayday!’ and ‘Drag Nets’, the self-titled is a culmination of those sounds, the dark, stark and harrowing alongside the quiet, intimate confessions that form the through-line of their music. It reflects on the genuine need for human connection and the reasons we maintain it, addressing the moments those connections are lost and the moments they're reignited.
Residing in a musical landscape at the bottom of the world, Shock Corridor demands your attention.
