Gordi

Live at The Church

6 November 2024

Australian singer-songwriter Gordi turns a page to open a new chapter in her esteemed musical journey, revealing a collaboration with Mercury-prize nominated Irish singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson aka SOAK, on ‘Lunch At Dune’ - along with the announcement of the Lunch At Dune EP, to be released on November 15.

To celebrate Gordi's return with new music, we are thrilled to host Sophie Payten for a one-off special, intimate solo show at The Church in Alexandria. The Church is a meticulously restored 19th-century Gothic church owned by Judith Neilson AM that houses rehearsals and work development for musicians by invitation. Our debut publicly announced concert at The Church, it is a full circle moment for Gordi who spent a week in the venue last summer working on new material.

Her new single ‘Lunch At Dune’ (feat. SOAK) garnered first plays from BBC Radio 1 and was included in BBC 6 Music's New Music Fix on release, receiving instant press pickup internationally including named Song Of The Day by The Telegraph UK, Stereogum, Our Culture, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, Rolling Stone and more.

Starting the track in an AirBnB in London’s northern suburb of Camden, the recording was finished a while later, across the Atlantic in Durham, North Carolina. Gordi called on her friend Brad Cook (Snail Mail, Bon Iver, Waxahatchee) to co-produce ‘Lunch At Dune’, with whom she had collaborated a few years back at Wisconsin’s Eaux Claires Festival and Berlin’s PEOPLE Residency. Philip Weinrobe (Big Thief, Florist, Nick Murphy, Adrienne Lenker) complemented the careful production with a beautiful and expansive mix.

The duo also enlisted the help of a number of well-known North Carolina local musicians on the track: Bon Iver drummer Matt McCaughan; acclaimed gospel and pedal steel artist DeShawn Hickman; and touring musician for Waxahatchee and Tallest Man, Yan Westerlund.
