Liz Martin Band
Live at The Church
16 August 2026
Liz Martin writes and performs music that moves between restraint and release — brooding folk forms shaped by rhythm, space, and a voice that carries both weight and vulnerability. Her songs captivate through musical and lyrical diversity, grounded in an honesty that deeply connects with audiences.
Across three albums and a series of EPs, released independently through MGM Distribution, she has developed a body of work marked by emotional precision and sonic depth. Her recordings have garnered strong and ongoing support, with ABC Radio National’s Tim Ritchie describing her music as “evocative, alluring and strangely comforting,” while Rhythms Magazine has called her “one of Australia’s most versatile talents.”
Her work extends into commissioned performance, including projects with the Sydney Opera House and Restless Dance Theatre. Most recently, she contributed music to Estado de Asamblea (State of Assembly), a large-scale participatory work by Gabriela Golder presented as part of the Biennale of Sydney.
For this performance, she appears in trio with Dirk Kruithof (guitar) and Michael Bridges (violin, musical saw). Their longstanding collaboration centres on close listening and subtle interplay, with arrangements that favour space, texture, and responsiveness. In this stripped-back setting, the songs are reshaped in real time, allowing detail and connection to come forward.
This performance will take place at The Church.
The Church is a meticulously restored 19th-century Gothic church in Alexandria, NSW owned by Judith Neilson AM that houses rehearsals and work development for musicians by invitation.
