Murilo Tanouye
Live at The Church
18 January 2026
Murilo began his musical journey in Brazil as a popular guitarist, primarily versed in MPB, Samba, and Bossa Nova styles. In 2003, he moved to Australia to further his career and pursue classical studies. He undertook formal training at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of Gregory Pikler, graduating with First Class Honours as a scholarship recipient.
A now Sydney-based artist, he has since performed extensively across Australia and internationally. Career highlights include featured appearances at major events such as the Sydney Festival and performances at renowned venues including the Sydney Opera House, City Recital Hall, and Sydney Town Hall. In 2018, he made his orchestral debut as a soloist with The Metropolitan Orchestra.
Beyond solo work, Murilo has collaborated with leading performing arts groups including the dance company Legs On The Wall, percussion ensemble TaikOz, and Musica Viva. His touring has taken him across the United States, Brazil, Europe, South Korea, and throughout regional Australia, covering five states and over 60 different cities.
A versatile and collaborative musician, Murilo is passionate about exploring diverse musical landscapes. His long-standing duo with saxophonist Nick Russoniello, Duo Histoire, remains one of his most rewarding and enduring creative partnerships.
