Sam Gill
Scattered
Live at The Church
23 August 2026
Sam Gill is an award-winning Sydney-based saxophonist and composer, and was the recipient of the 2025 Freedman Jazz Fellowship. He leads the innovative quintet Scattered, whose music draws on experimental jazz, chamber music and European folk music traditions, conjuring evocative sound-worlds with lush harmonies, driving rhythms and animated improvisations.
Since forming in 2014, Scattered have carved out a unique space within the Sydney music scene, developing a loyal following of their unique brand of chamber jazz. Their 2020 debut album Perspectival was described by John Shand (Sydney Morning Herald) as “[slicing] through time and space to combine the freedom and complexity of now with an almost urbane salon aesthetic that could be a century old”.
This performance will feature a set of recently-composed music inspired by Sam's 2024 travels in Greece and Bulgaria.
