Npcede — "Hear Them"
Npcede’s Live at Phoenix film for “Hear Them,” directed by Hyun Lee, is a surreal and disorienting exploration of grief, memory, and transformation. Set within the heart of The Nest, the film unfolds with precision and restraint—a delicate interrogation of loss.
Comprised of brothers Victor and Roy Moore and childhood friend Zac Hellyer, Npcede’s music hovers between clarity and collapse, foregrounded by fractured melodies and minimal, tactile production. Hyun Lee’s direction echoes this fragile tension, using slow, deliberate movements and shifting spatial perspectives to create an uncanny surreal atmosphere. The camera lingers, floats, and recedes—drawing the viewer into liminal space that resists fixed meaning, much like Npcede’s music itself.
This film arrives at a poignant moment, as one of the final releases from Chapter Music, a label instrumental in amplifying distinctive, independent Australian voices. Npcede’s debut EP, released as Chapter Music begins to wind down operations, stands as a testament to the label’s commitment to distinctive, artist-led work.
