Shady Nasty — "SCREWDRIVA"
Shady Nasty has carved a distinct space in Sydney’s DIY music scene with their genre-defying mix of punk, hip-hop, and experimental sounds. Known for exploring themes like masculinity, urban disillusionment, and cultural identity, the trio comprised of Kevin Stathis (vocals, guitar), Haydn Green (Bass) and Luca Watson (drums) has become a vital voice for a generation navigating the complexities of modern city life. Their Live at Phoenix film of “SCREWDRIVA”, directed by Harry Welsh, captures the band’s raw, unfiltered energy within The Nest at Phoenix Central Park through surveillance-style footage. Inspired by reckless, high-speed driving during interstate tours, “SCREWDRIVA” reflects the rush of the road and the allure of escapism. Welsh’s use of surveillance cameras to film the performance creates a sense of fragmented observation, aligning with the track’s exploration of tunnel vision and chaotic momentum. The Nest’s bespoke architecture adds to the disorienting, layered effect, reframing the trio’s frenetic energy through voyeuristic perspectives.
