Niran Dasika performs “Sunless City” for Live at Phoenix, joined by Andrea Keller (piano) and Helen Svoboda (double bass), with striking visual direction from Sydney-based filmmakers Baro Lee and Gerard Cabellon.

A composition from Dasika’s latest release 'Life Forms' (Ear Shift Music, 2025), “Sunless City” is defined by its cyclical structure. Without defined solos, the trio expresses itself as a unified organism, with Dasika’s lyrical trumpet melodies rising and falling in gentle dialogue with two of Australia’s leading improvising musicians. Meanwhile, Lee and Cabellon’s camera in delicate simpatico motions, paying close attention to the evocative shadowed forms cast by the artists on Phoenix Central Park’s sculpted interior walls.
